![]() ![]() ![]() "Anyone
who has accustomed himself to regard the life of any living creature as
worthless is in danger of arriving also at the idea of worthless human
lives." In MY opinion, there are many animal species that we share our beautiful world with that have the VERY SAME INALIENABLE right to live their lives to the best of their abilities that WE as human beings do. In fact, since I feel so strongly about this, I think I will repeat exactly what I said in the HUMAN RIGHTS page which is, "Every single animal on this earth has the exact same right to be treated with nothing less than the dignity, understanding and respect that we ALL deserve." By THIS
I mean the following: Just because we as human beings find ourselves in
the fortunate position of being able to communicate with one another by
the use of our various languages, and just because we as human beings
possess
the ability to reason with one another on a higher intellectual plane
than
our animal counterparts, absolutely positively DOES NOT give
us the power and/or the right to USE these
abilities in such a way that they will cause any type of inhumanity
and/or
cruelty to the animal whatsoever! There are a few important issues that I would now like to address and the first one concerns the eating of an animal's flesh...Now I am not about to think that I am so "all powerful" or so "all controlling" as to think that I have the right to stand on a soapbox and preach to anybody about what they SHOULD and should NOT consume as part of their individual dietary nutrition. I mean let's FACE it...there are plenty of people in the world who we all know for a fact are AVID animal lovers but for reasons of their own (or their doctors') have chosen to eat meat. Now how do "I" know what an individual's particular nutritional and/or dietary needs or laws consist of in order for them to live a healthy physical and emotional life? I am certainly not about to sit here and presume that I can judge anybody's entire character make-up based solely upon what they choose to eat because we as human beings are much too complex for THIS sort of stereotyping. I wonder how many people have seen the movies called,"Alive?" and "Castaway?" (in MY opinion, Tom Hanks deserved an Oscar for best actor). Well if you HAVE seen one or both of them then you already know where this is leading you to. If you HAVEN'T yet seen one or both of them and after reading my link of what "Alive" is about, feel that you are emotionally able to handle the movie's content, then I suggest that you view it, for it will without a doubt show you what a human is capable of doing in order to survive. The next issue I would like to talk about is something that should concern anybody who has an ounce of decency inside of them and this is the subject of the testing of innocent animals in the name of furthering scientific research... While
I DO believe
that we must do everything in our power to continue the preservation of
the human race, I do NOT believe
that in DOING so,
any living creature need suffer cruel and/or inhumane treatment by our
own hand... Take
the cosmetic industry for example...Anybody who knows me, knows that I
love cosmetics. While it may be true that I DO
feel that it is important for us to wear cosmetics to enhance our
appearance,
I am ADAMANTLY AGAINST the
use of inflicting pain and suffering upon an innocent animal should it
find itself in the unfortunate position of being tortured against its
will
in the name of science. You may be wondering whether there are any
OTHER options in regard to making certain
that the cosmetics that you buy will be absolutely safe for you to use,
so let me now assure you that the answer is an unqualified YES!!!!!!!
Please keep in mind that there are plenty of cosmetic companies that do
NOT do
animal testing and believe me, I LOVE seeing
those words on a cosmetic product! As far as the medical industry is concerned, I ALSO understand that there are other options available to them besides putting animals through cruel experimentation procedures, and it is my hope that some day soon on the horizon, both humans AND animals will no longer have to be the "guinea pigs" for every single new medical discovery that comes along. If you would like to read more about these subjects, please click on the following links: The Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing On
the subject of trapping, I DETEST it
for ANY reason... On
the subject of hunting, I can understand you doing this only if you are
prepared to consume what you have hunted (after having employed humane
tactics while DOING
so), but if you are hunting for mere sport alone, then I detest THIS practice
as well. And
now here is something that will uplift your heart and mind...did you
know
that pets can actually help human beings live longer, healthier lives
(and
vice versa of course) The
Healing Power of Pets This is soooo wonderful! Did you know that according to the efforts of our lawmakers, it is now a felony here in the United States of America to abuse an animal? Read about it here. I
love it, I just love it. State
Animal Cruelty Laws I was sent this page
which is located within a woman's website and I had to place it here to
share with you, since I feel that it is one of the most breathtaking
and beautiful sights that I have ever seen here in the Internet. It is of a
series of photos consisting of a caring woman named Abigail Alfano, who
is also known affectionately as, "the Hummingbird Lady" and she is
definitely that! I just
wrote to Abigail telling her how much she's touched my heart.
